A treatment is only as good as the diagnosis that comes before it. That is why I take my time: I listen and ask questions, and only then do I examine you thoroughly. I don’t settle for a quick diagnosis.
If you need an X-ray, an MRI or a specialist, I refer you with a clear working diagnosis, so the radiologist or specialist knows exactly what to look for.
Some blood tests, such as inflammation markers when something is suspected, can be done right here at the clinic, and the result is usually ready the same day.

DiagnosticsInflammation markers, ECG and lung function
Lab results should never be read in isolation from the patient. They only become useful once they are interpreted correctly. A misread PSA value can quickly lead to unnecessary procedures, and testing specifically for inflammation markers helps avoid unnecessary antibiotics.
At the clinic: blood tests such as inflammation markers, usually with the result the same day, rapid tests for suspected heart attack, thrombosis or embolism, INR testing, ECG and 24-hour ECG, lung function testing (spirometry) and diving medicals.

Pain therapyPain that won't go away
Pain therapy relieves pain for a limited time. Before we start, we rule out serious causes, because pain can also be a sign of thrombosis or gastritis. That is why we check your inflammation markers first.
The benefit of a treatment must be proven to outweigh the risk of side effects. Done properly, pain therapy eases problems in the muscles, bones and joints and sharpens the diagnosis at the same time.

Before you have a CT or MRI scan, we give you a thorough neurological examination. With a clear working diagnosis, the radiologist then knows what to look for in the images.
People with dizziness end up in orthopaedics, ENT, internal medicine, general practice or neurology. We first work out where the symptoms really come from, because the success of the treatment depends on it.
RheumatologyOsteoarthritis and rheumatism
Stiff fingers in the morning, swollen joints or pain that has lasted for weeks: this may be osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. Many of these conditions can now be treated well with modern medication if they are caught early.
Taking painkillers for a long time without a clear diagnosis, on the other hand, risks serious and permanent damage to the liver and kidneys.
ENTEarache and pressure after a flight
Earache in children needs treating so that their hearing is not damaged later on. With an otoscope we can reliably tell an outer ear infection from a middle ear infection.
Pressure in the ears after landing usually means the ears are struggling to equalise. The right medicine, prescribed in good time, saves children and adults a lot of discomfort.

Consilium® is the first independent second opinion centre on the Costa Blanca. Dr. Martin Edlinger founded it at the suggestion of many of his patients, for anyone who wants to understand their condition and the treatment options properly before deciding on a therapy.
Based on your medical records and his own examination, he recommends how diagnosis and treatment should continue. He is not tied to any hospital and, where needed, brings in selected specialists from an international network. He also checks your medication, so that interactions and side effects are spotted.

How do I get an appointment?
Call us on +34 966 882 449, Monday to Friday between 9 am and 1 pm. Susanne Edlinger answers the phone and books the appointments. You can usually come in the same day, often that morning.
Appointments outside these hours are possible by arrangement. There is no online booking, and a quick call is faster anyway.
I’m only here on holiday. Can I still come?
Yes. Many of our patients are on holiday and fall ill while they are here, with pressure in the ears after the flight, an infection or sudden pain. Just give us a call, and we can usually see you the same day.
Does the doctor speak English?
Yes. Dr. Edlinger speaks English, German and Spanish, and he examines and advises you himself. You describe your symptoms in your own language, and he explains in your language what is wrong and how to take your medication.

Do I get an invoice for my insurance?
Yes. You pay for your treatment at the clinic and we give you an invoice, which you can submit to your insurer.
How quickly will I get my blood results?
Some blood tests, such as inflammation markers when something is suspected, can be done quickly, and you usually have the result the same day. We also do ECGs, 24-hour ECGs and lung function tests (spirometry) right here at the clinic.
What should I bring for a second opinion?
Everything you have about your condition: test results, doctors’ letters, X-ray or MRI images and a list of your medication. On that basis, and after examining you ourselves, we recommend how to proceed. We also check your medication for interactions.
Where can I park?
Right next to the building, on both sides of the N-332. Our entrance is on the N-332 at Cap Negret, between Altea and Calpe. You will find directions and a map further down.
Is the clinic accessible?
Not entirely, unfortunately: there are three steps at the entrance. If steps are difficult for you, Dr. Edlinger can also visit you at home. Please call us beforehand to arrange this.
